Sustainable stones and sand

All gradations offered by greenSand are 100% natural and come from olivine-rich rocks such as serpentine and/or dunite. Before greenSand is offered on the market, it is first extensively researched. On this page you can read more about greenSand Olivijn's quality research.

Initial quality control Olivine

Before we offer our products on the market, the rock is extensively tested for purity and quality. In so-called batch inspections, the material is tested against the requirements and standards laid down in the Soil Quality Decree. These are carried out by the international certification and inspection agency SGS.

A common problem with rocks is that they contain asbestos fibers. Thanks to SGS, we can guarantee every batch that our rocks are safe and below the permitted asbestos standard.

Both the mines and SGS have ISO 9001 standards.

Standards for sustainable mining

greenSand only works with mines that annually renew and have their sustainability management systems approved. Two of these systems are ISO 14001 and Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). These two systems are internationally recognized and we require cooperation.

Polarization microscope research

We want to be sure of our business and the products we market. That is why we have engaged an external party in addition to SGS to examine the rock. Thanks to the external party Eurofins, we can say that the rock remains below the applicable standard with regard to possible asbestos fibers.

The following asbestos types have been examined using a polarization microscope: Chrysotile, Amosite, Crocidolite, Tremolite, Actinolite, Anthophyllite.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

In a life cycle assessment (LCA), the environmental impact is calculated at each stage of a product's life cycle. We had an LCA made by Nibe for two of our products and validated by LBP Sights .

You can read the Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) that were created from the LCA below.

EPD greenSand Crusher sand

EPD greenSand Semi-paving

Environmental Cost Indicator (MKI)

We used the LCA to calculate the environmental costs for the National Environmental Database of greenSand Semi-verharding and greenSand Brekerzand . We started with these products because of their application possibilities in public spaces. Both result in negative environmental costs (read environmental benefits). This provides an additional incentive to companies, municipalities and provinces to choose greenSand products that help combat the consequences of climate change.

In 2020, the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate carried out a study for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management with the aim of assessing whether we comply with the European REACH regulation
Samples were taken and examined for asbestos by SGS.

You can read the outcome that the material does not contain asbestos here
